Modern Translation

Regest: 28 January 1457. The Court of Holland sentences Symon Jacopsz. to branding and banishment for forgery.

Gerrit van Assendelft, Mr. Lodewijk van der Eycke, Mr. Anthonis Michiels. Mr. Hendrik van der Mye, councillors and Clais de Vries, steward-general of Holland. I, J. Lodijc, was also present.

Concerning Simon Jacobsz. against the procurator-general.

Symon Jacobsz. from Abbekerke forged an open letter sealed with the seal of my gracious lord. He erased the number 15 and wrote 25 in its place. This was noted in the letter in question and Simon himself confessed to it. For this reason, the Court of Holland sentences Simon to stand for an hour on the ‘kaak’ in The Hague with a mitre on his head on which his crime is written . In addition, he will be branded in his want. He must have left Holland and Zeeland within three days and will remain exiled from these countries for ever, forfeiting his body and goods, which will belong to my gracious lord. Issued on 28 January [14]57 according to the style of the Court in the presence of Tresloing,

Assendelft, Eyke, Michiels and Mye, councillors of Holland.
